When I am a visitor, I consider it polite to attempt to abide by the local
customs.

The one systematic exception to the ts=8 setting in the perl distribution
that I am aware of is Configure, which uses ts=4 throughout.  That's
because Configure actually comes from a separate package (metaconfig) and
ts=4 is what the metaconfig maintainer uses.
